Chelsea cruised to a 3-0 victory against Aston Villa on Saturday evening with Romelu Lukaku scoring twice.
Chelsea fans have praised Timo Werner for what he did in the build-up to Lukaku’s second goal against Aston Villa.
After some good work from Cesar Azpilicueta on the right-hand side, the Spaniard played a low ball to Lukaku, who was found in plenty of space just outside the box. Werner’s run occupied two Villa defenders, something that created plenty of space for the Belgian – who made no mistake with an emphatic finish into the top corner.
While Lukaku has deservedly received praise for scoring twice against Aston Villa, Chelsea fans have also praised Werner for his brilliant movement which dragged two defenders and gave Lukaku time on the ball for his second goal.
A Chelsea fan wrote on Reddit: “Yup this is it. I’d love to see those 2 together”.
Another fan wrote: “He’s class off the ball. On the ball I’d rather not speak.”
A third fan wrote: “Forget the build up. Werner dragged both defenders with his run and perfectly timed with Lukaku who just stayed behind and got totally freed. Small but so important detail to appreciate here.”
Lukaku also appreciated Werner for his brilliant run that gave him space for his second goal against Aston Villa.
Lukaku said: “I think I have to give a lot of credit for Timo because Timo created a lot of space for me.
“As soon as he created the space to run in behind the two defenders I had a lot of time, the touch was good and the finish was just clinical.”
