Chelsea continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-0 win over Aston Villa, with Romelu Lukaku scoring a brace either side of Mateo Kovacic’s strike.

Lukaku opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 15th minute after receiving a brilliant pass from Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic from inside Chelsea’s own half.

For the second goal, Kovacic went from provider to scorer, and this time it was laid out for him on a plate as he took advantage of a poor Tyrone Mings back pass to increase Chelsea’s lead.

It was Mateo Kovacic’s first goal ever at Stamford Bridge and his second goal for the club in 21 months.

Speaking about his goal after the game, Kovacic admitted that it was as a result of the team’s pressing, something Blues boss Thomas Tuchel always emphasises on.

“Of course we try to press,” said the Croatian.

“We press high up the pitch. It is exhausting sometimes, it is not easy, but I managed to come to the ball. When I come in front of goal it is not my best thing but I managed to score, luckily a little bit.

“The last goal was a long time ago but the most important was to get the three points.”
