Chelsea got a massive win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as the Blues defeated Aston Villa 3-0 to maintain a joint lead at the top of the table.
Summer signing Romelu Lukaku was on fire as he bagged a brace in that game. It was indeed two top class goals with both feet.
Despite the 3-0 scoreline, it was a difficult first half for Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel’s side dug deep to hold on to the win.
Speaking after the game, Lukaku hailed Mateo Kovacic who also had a brilliant game and assisted his first goal. Lukaku also reserved praised for the defensive unit as he hailed goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, and defenders Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and Trevoh Chalobah.
Lukaku told Chelsea TV: “Lukaku also praised the performances of Edouard Mendy, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and Trevoh Chalobah.
“The defence is the base of our success because the defence is doing an incredible job,’ said Lukaku.
“From there we try to build confidence, we know we have a lot of players who can deliver the ball, we have a lot of players who can score a goal.
“Today Edu was brilliant, Thiago, Toni and Trevoh, they were amazing. In training it’s tough to play against them but we push each other very hard and as a team we try to do well every game.”
