When Chelsea paid £22m to sign up Edouard Mendy from Rennes, no one expected that the Senegal international will be this sensational.
Having already been named as the best goalkeeper in Europe, Mendy hasn’t slowed down this season.
Only Mohamed Salah has beaten Mendy this season, and even that came from a penalty goal.
Against Aston Villa, Mendy proved his worth again as the Chelsea defence endured a barage of shots targeted at the goalkeeper.
Mendy defied all odds to make a double save in the first half, as the Blues defence were opened to 18 shots from Villa and 6 direct at goal.
Mendy got an 8/10 rating in that game and was definitely one of the best performers at the Bridge.
Even his teammates acknowledged how good his performance was on Saturday, and goalscorer Mateo Kovacic admitted that the 29-year-old is amazing, and he also took time to praise second choice goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Kovacic said: “Edou is amazing. He does great in goal and keeps clean sheets week in week out. We are pleased to have the two of them because Kepa too is an amazing goalkeeper.”
