Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ross Barkley and Malang Sarr are yet to feature for Chelsea this season. The trio were expected to head out on loan during the summer transfer window, but none eventually left the club before deadline day.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has now sent a message of encouragement and also a warning to all three players. Tuchel doesn’t see them as outcasts and believes that they should be ready at all times.
The Blues boss has also revealed that Loftus-Cheek and Malang Sar will be in the squad to face Zenit in our first Champions League game of the season later today.
“Listen, it’s very easy – if you get registered [in the squad] it’s your duty to be ready,” Tuchel said when addressing the media.
“When you dress up in this dressing room and you come here to Chelsea every day then it’s your duty to be ready, this is the baseline for everything, you need to be ready.
“You step into this building and you step on the training pitch you have to be ready. You have to be ready once you’re on the list, you have to be ready every day to train and every day to play, it’s the baseline for everything.
“Nobody gets a gift here. Malang is in the squad tomorrow, Ruben is in the squad, he was in the squad against Liverpool, Ross Barkley was in the squad against Aston Villa.
“We have a tight group, it’s a small group, it’s a high-quality group.
“They did a first step, for whatever reason they didn’t find other clubs or accept other clubs, whatever it is it doesn’t matter.
“Now they deserve to do the next step and be part of this group. Once you’re part of this group you have to match the high expectations which we have for ourselves.
“This is as simple as I said, you have to be ready. When they are in the group they need to do everything to be match ready. I have the feeling that they are otherwise I would have not put them on the list and they would not be on the bench, but they are.
“They are showing a good mentality. They put their personal situation aside, they live it day by day, this is what we demand and from here no promises are made but anything can happen.”
