Aston Villa will be without two of their stars ahead of this weekend’s clash as Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia will be unavailable for Villa’s visit to Stamford Bridge this weekend.
Dean Smith will now have to improvise ahead of this weekend’s game due to the absence of some of his players.
Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez went ahead to represent Argentina in a Covid-19 “red list” country last week, and will now miss the game on Saturday.
This means that both players would have to self-isolate in a hotel for 10 days upon arrival back in the UK, ruling them out of the game at Stamford Bridge.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has now issued warnings to Martinez and Buendia and believes they could end up regretting their decision.
He told Football Insider: “It’s a tough one because no player wants to miss playing for their country.
“That’s the pinnacle of their careers. But the club pays your wages, that’s your bread and butter.
“You’re going to miss games and it could cost your team league positions and money. Me personally, I think they will regret this.
“There are two big players there who are going to miss out against Chelsea. Maybe they are looking at this fixture thinking it’s one they’ve lost anyway. They might think it isn’t the end of the world losing that one.
“It’s a difficult one with everything that’s going on, it’s hard to say what’s right and what’s wrong. But your club football is your main concern.”
