Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has seen his record as the African top scorer in the Premier League broken, as Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has surpassed his record as the highest African scorer in the Premier League.
Mo Salah bagged a hat-trick in Manchester United’s heavy defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, and it was enough to surpass the record held by Drogba.
There has been a huge debate over who the greater striker is between Drogba and Salah.
However, former Nigerian international and Premier League striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has revealed who the greatest African striker in the Premier League is.
“You cannot say Salah is the greatest African to play in the Premier League. Drogba was something special because he was scoring for fun,” Yakubu told Goal.
“However, you have to give Salah the credit for breaking the big legend’s [Drogba] record, which makes him one of the greatest Africans in the English top-flight, but for now, he is certainly not the greatest.’
“All the same, we have to applaud the Egyptian (Salah) for his fine form because it is not easy to play the way he is doing that right now – which is incredible.”
