Former Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has revealed that he has spoken with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard over the the possibility of taking the Newcastle job.

Lampard had a good first season in charge of Chelsea, but the Chelsea team fell apart in his second season and he was eventually sacked from his job as club manager.

Lampard is among the list of managers who have been linked with the Newcastle job, and Giroud is backing the former Blues boss.

When asked whether Lampard would do a good job at St James’ Park, Giroud who’s now with AC Milan told talkSPORT: “Yeah, definitely.

“I talked to him a little bit last year and I think he’s looking forward for a good challenge to come back as a manager. And I think it’s definitely a good option for him.

“I believe Newcastle is a big team in the Premier League and it’s a good challenge for him to bounce back and show his quality, definitely.”
