Lippi and Sacchi believe this Chelsea player should win Ballon d’Or ahead of Ronaldo, Messi and Lewandowski

Former Italy national team managers Marcello Lippi and Arrigo Sacchi have both backed Chelsea midfielder Jorginho to win the Ballon d’Or award.

Jorginho is one of five Chelsea players named as nominees for the award this year.

Jorginho played a key role in Chelsea winning the Champions League last season and Italy winning the European Championship during the summer.

N’Golo Kante, Romelu Lukaku, Cezar Azpilicueta and Mason Mount are the other Chelsea players nominated for the Ballon d’Or with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe also on the list of nominees.

“Jorginho should receive the Ballon d’Or this year, not the usual suspects,” Lippi, who managed Italy to a World Cup win in 2006, said during the Festival dello Sport event in Trento.

“I absolutely agree,” added Sacchi, who himself took charge of the Azzurri between 1991 and 1996.
