Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount was named on a 30-man shortlist for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award on Friday alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Cesar Azpilicueta and Romelu Lukaku.

When asked if he had a chance of winning the Ballon d’Or, Mount replied: “I doubt it but you never know, the most important thing for me is that I continue to hit the levels I’ve set before and go even further.

“That’s always been my mentality and hopefully that continues.”

Meanwhile, former Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson has claimed Mount is underappreciated.

“Mason Mount is underappreciated, he’s brilliant,” Johnson told bettingexpert. “If he was French or Italian, everyone would be raving about him.

“He’s playing with big names, superstars and for me, some of his performances do go unmissed. He’s an all-round midfielder and should be starting every week.”
