Germany head coach Hansi Flick has admitted he was disappointed with Timo Werner’s performance in German’s win over Romania.

Germany could only get a 2-1 victory against Romania in their World Cup qualifying game against Romania on Friday.

Werner started the home game against Romania, but his positioning and runs were poor all game that he barely had a sniff on goal.

In the second-half, Hansi Flick decided to bring on Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller in his place, as the Chelsea man failed to hit a shot on target.

Speaking after the game, the Germany boss was clearly disappointed with the way Werner performed, as he admitted a top striker of his calibre should do better.

“[Werner] is quite capable of opening up spaces where it is tight and converting rebounds,” Flick said in his post-match press conference (via Sport Buzzer).

“[But] he didn’t have the positioning you need.

“He was often parallel with Serge Gnabry or Leroy Sané, who had the ball.

“We still have to train that a bit.

“In Leipzig, he had 25 to 30 goal contributions every season. He is a striker who knows how to score goals.

“Timo plays in a top team at Chelsea. He gets the assignments with us, he gets the backing with us.”
