Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has seen his record as the African king of the Premier League broken, as Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has broken his record as the highest African scorer in the Premier League.

Mo Salah bagged a hat-trick in Manchester United’s heavy defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, and it was enough to surpass the record held by Drogba.

The Egyptian has now overtaken Didier Drogba as the highest-scoring African in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Drogba had revealed that he sent a congratulatory message to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian matched his record against Watford.

“I sent him a message to congratulate him (after the record-equaling goal against Watford),” the 43-year-old told France’s Canal+ via the Metro.

“I am happy for him. He’s in great shape right now and I hope he will continue. It often happens that our little brothers overtake us and it’s good.

“Salah is also heading towards another record, that of the best African scorer in the history of the Champions League.”
