Stats guru WhoScored has named Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah as the best centre-back in Europe’s top five leagues so far this season.

Chalobah has been a standout player in every game he has played this season. The 22-year-old has made ten appearances across all competitions this season, starting in the last three league games, with Chelsea conceding just once.

According to WhoScored who got their stats based on players who has started five plus games this season, Chalobah’s overall general contribution in defence has earned him the number one spot, with Arsenal loanee Konstantinos Mavropanos and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Shane Duffy in second and third position respectively.

As at last season, no one expected that the academy product will be making huge stride in the Chelsea first team this season. However, Cole Skuse, Chalobah’s former Ipswich Town teammate isn’t surprised at how far the 22-year-old has come.

“To see what he’s doing now isn’t a surprise in the slightest,” said Cole Skuse.

“You could see from an athletic standpoint he had a real presence but his understanding and technical ability even then was remarkable.”
