Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel achieved what former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho couldn’t following the 3-0 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday.

St James’ Park was never an easy place for Mourinho’s Chelsea teams to visit and the Portuguese failed to register a victory there as Chelsea boss.

During Mourinho’s first spell as Chelsea boss, the Blues lost twice and drew once in three league visits to St James’ Park. The same record was repeated in his second spell as Chelsea boss, with two defeats and one draw against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

It would be unfair, though, to claim Mourinho is the only Chelsea head coach to have struggled at St James’ Park. Under Antonio Conte, there was a 3-0 defeat in 2018. And, somehow, Frank Lampard’s side were beaten 1-0 in January 2018 after a late-gasp goal from Isaac Hayden.

However, Tuchel ensured his first visit to St James’ Park was a success as the Blues dominated and beat Newcastle United 3-0 on Saturday.

Tuchel’s Chelsea are three points clear at the top of the Premier League and are showing they are genuine contenders for the Premier League title.
