Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel had never really acknowledged Chelsea’s interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland until now.

The Blues were keen on signing a top striker during the summer transfer window, and Haaland was reportedly Chelsea’s first choice target.

It didn’t work out in the end as the German side weren’t interested in selling their young striker, and the Blues settled for the £97.5m signing of Romelu Lukaku.

With figures around £150m being talked about at the time, Tuchel has now admitted that signing Haaland during the summer wasn’t feasible.

“We talked about Erling Haaland a couple of times, including during the transfer window,” Tuchel told SportBild.

“But then it seemed absolutely unrealistic and not at all feasible.

“We talk about him regularly, of course, because he’s a fantastic player and clearly the defining figure at Dortmund, who is a big rival for us in the Champions League.”
