Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he wouldn’t play Ben Chilwell on the left side of his three-man defrmc defence.

Chelsea’s wing-backs Reece James and Ben Chilwell have been in superb form of late and have both been scoring goals for fun. But while Reece can play in defence, Tuchel claims Chilwell won’t fit in that position.

“For Reecey [James], you see sometimes he plays in the back line of three. I would not do this with Chilly. In terms of character, he’s not a guy who can play in the back three. He takes by character a little more risk, he feels a little more free to arrive in offensive positions,” Tuchel said.

Speaking after the win over Newcastle, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel revealed he instructs his wing-backs to get into the box often.

“If it was so easy we would just demand it every three days!” Thomas Tuchel said about Reece James goals after Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Newcastle.

“In general we rely on our wing-backs to arrive in the box. Chilly was decisive in the last matches. Azpi, Marcos were in earlier matches.

“Today it was Reecey, two brilliant finishes to secure the victory. It’s not easy but when you play as wing-backs it is necessary to be dangerous from your positions.”
