Against Norwich City on Saturday, the strength of Chelsea’s academy was evident as 5 of Chelsea’s 7 goals was scored by players from the academy.

Mason Mount scored a hat-trick, while Callum Hudson-Odoi and Thomas Tuchel also got on the scoresheet. Hudson-Odoi also forced an own goal off Norwich right-back Max Aarons, which showed how much impact the lads from the academy had in the game.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has hailed the quality in the Chelsea team and that of the academy players, as he called his squad a fine blend of academy players and foreign players.

The Chelsea manager also hailed the academy coaches and revealed that all the academy players who make it to the first team squad have the same spirit and humble attitude.

The Blues boss said: “The Academy is full of quality coaches and quality leaders, and the guys who come from the Academy through to our team and onto our pitch are all of the same spirit and same attitude – humble guys who know what it is to play for Chelsea.

“They know what it takes to be serious, to be humble, and that there’s no problem in being a nice guy and still playing a hard and serious match of football.

“It’s a pleasure to have that mix between the best players of the world from all countries and the Academy players. That makes things special and creates a certain energy and atmosphere for the spectators in the stadium.

“This is what we want and we will always try to push guys through but in the end, let’s be honest, it’s a matter of quality and not where you come from.”
