Goal have come up with their annual top 50 players in the world list. The Goal top 50 has become a massive hit since inception and has now gained worldwide relevance.
Interestingly, their top 50 for the year 2021 will go down as one of the worst in recent history.
Goal chose Lionel Messi as the best player for the year 2021 with Cristiano Ronaldo coming in second, which is by far an exaggerated rating of two of the greatest players of all time.
For all of Chelsea’s dominance in the Champions League this season, only N’Golo Kante made the top 10, and surprisingly, no Chelsea player from the Champions League squad made the top 19 list.
Here is the top 10 of the Goal 50:
- Lionel Messi
- Cristiano Ronaldo
- Robert Lewandowski
- Mohamed Salah
- Kylian Mbappe
- Erling Haaland
- Karim Benzema
- N’Golo Kante
- Kevin De Bruyne
The next Chelsea player to come in after Kante is Romelu Lukaku who is 12th on the list, following his exploits in Inter Milan’s title success last season.
The impressive Edouard Mendy is 20th on the list, while Ballon d’Or nominee Jorginho could only make it at number 22.
Goal said of Jorginho: “The UEFA Men’s Player of the Year silenced his critics by dictating the tempo throughout Chelsea’s triumphant Champions League run before helping Italy win Euro 2020, culminating in a dominant display against England at Wembley.”
Mason Mount is 31st on the list and Kai Havertz 32nd, while Christian Pulisic takes 42 position. No other Chelsea player made it to the top 50, not even the very impressive Antonio Rudiger.
