According to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Chelsea have joined Premier League side Newcastle United in the race to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot in January.
The 26-year-old sees his contract with the Old Lady expire at the end of next season and is now being linked with a move away from the Italian club.
The report claims the Blues view Rabiot as someone that could potentially replace midfielder Saul Niguez, who may see his loan spell in West London prematurely ended. Saul, 26, has had a difficult few months in Thomas Tuchel’s squad since a move on loan from Atletico Madrid.
Rabiot is currently in his third full season with Juventus after joining them in the summer of 2019 on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. However, the French international has been unable to get going in Turin, struggling to make the kind of impact that had clubs all across queuing up to sign him not so long ago
The France international has managed six goals and five assists from his 95 appearances for the Bianconeri to date. While he has started eight Serie A games this season.
Juventus Massimiliano Allegri has been critical of the 26-year-old on more than one occasion this season and the Italian side are seriously considering offloading the midfielder.
Chelsea are looking at a possible deal for the Frenchman in January, according to reports from Italy but face competition from Newcastle United.
