Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy surprisingly lost the Ballon d’Or best goalkeeper award to PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Despite being the best goalkeeper in the Champions League as the Blues won the Champions League last season, Donnarumma was voted the best goalkeeper ahead of the Chelsea goalie.

The decision to name Donnarumma is also shocking as Mendy had 25 clean sheets last season compared to Donnarumma’s 15 clean sheets. Donnarumma isn’t even the first choice goalkeeper at PSG.

Several fans blasted France Football for the decision to name Donnarumma the best goalkeeper ahead of Mendy, which some claiming the PSG goalkeeper was voted ahead of Mendy because he plays in France.

Reacting to losing the 2021 Lev Yashin award for best goalkeeper to Donnarumma, Mendy wrote on Instagram: “Tonight I feel blessed and grateful. Thanks for all your worldwide messages and endless support.”
