Chelsea signed up Thiago Silva on a free transfer in the summer of 2020, and the Brazilian is in the final year of his contract with Chelsea.
At age 37, the Brazilian centre-back hasn’t shown any sign of slowing down. He was in top form in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Leicester City, and then produced another top performance as Chelsea defeated Juventus 4-0.
Chelsea legend Pat Nevin recently revealed how much of a top class centre-half Thiago Silva is, and has said people are now beginning to notice.
“Once again there were a bunch of candidates wearing yellow, not slipping on it, for the man of the match award. I noticed later on TV that they gave it to Thiago Silva which delighted me and doubtless many of you as well,” Nevin wrote.
“Finally, people are beginning to realise that our Brazilian Rolls Royce of a centre back is effortlessly and classily cruising away from just about anyone he is up against week after week.”
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has also heaped praise on Thiago Silva and believes that his top performance is aided by the two other centre-backs beside him, as he seems to be supported by players with speed.
“He had two athletes (Chalobah and Rudiger) alongside him who just want to be aggressive and get around people. If they manage to beat that press, they’re quick enough to get back and support Thiago Silva,” Ferdinand said.
