Ruben Loftus-Cheek made as many as 7 successful dribbles against Malmo — that is the height of his new found confidence under Thomas Tuchel.
Loftus-Cheek has been in fine form this season, but it comes after a poor spell on loan with Fulham last term.
The 25-year-old came through the ranks at Chelsea and was expected to be the next player from the academy to break into the first team after John Terry. Surprisingly, the likes of Mason Mount and Reece James got there before him, as injury also didn’t help Loftus-Cheek
Now 25, Loftus-Cheek has created a space for himself at Chelsea and has been impressing the manager. A Chelsea fan had recently hailed him as the combination of Yaya Toure and John Mikel Obi — two characteristics he somehow shares.
Tuchel believes Loftus-Cheek has limited himself for so long and is now urging him to get beyond his current limitations.
“That’s why he plays for us. Otherwise, there is no chance to play in midfield for us if you’re not in a good place mentally and physically,” the Chelsea manager told Chelsea TV about Loftus-Cheek.
“He’s been very strong, since day one, and he’s absolutely aware of his potential.
“But with him, I think it’s not about potential, it’s about setting the standard every single match and pushing the limits.
“Because I think he still accepts the limits [which are not for him]. We want him to constantly set a new standard.”
