Timo Werner got his first start since his return from injury in the game against Manchester United, and it wasn’t a good appearance for the German.
Werner looked off the pace of the game at times and he also missed two glittering chances.
Explaining why he started Werner against Manchester United, Tuchel revealed that Werner was very impressive in training.
“He hasn’t played for a long time so can we expect him at his peak? No. So it’s what we expect,” Thomas Tuchel said about Timo Werner’s performance against Manchester United.
“He’s looked sharp in training, scored many goals in training, so that is why I went with my gut and put him on the pitch.”
“It was a decision of Timo because he looked sharp and had the goal against Juventus. So we thought maybe he could be the big threat in the middle. It’s not easy for him today.”
