Chelsea currently have four defenders who will be out of contract at the end of the season.
Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger are all in the final year of their contracts with the club.
Of all Chelsea defenders, Rudiger is the only one who can play as a left-sided centre-back, and the 28-year-old has been in outstanding form under Thomas Tuchel.
Former Chelsea full-back Glen Johnson has told Chelsea to target Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana, and believes he could be an ideal replacement if the Blues defender does depart from the club.
The 20-year-old centre-back enjoyed a breakthrough season last season with Leicester City under Brendan Rodgers but has not featured so far during the 2021-22 campaign after suffering a bad injury in pre-season, and Johnson thinks he’s a top player.
Johnson however warned that Chelsea won’t be the only club to go for Fofana if he’s available.
Johnson told BettingOdds.com: “I do rate Wesley Fofana. Big time.
“He’s a young lad with a lot to learn but I think he looks great. He’s super athletic and intelligent on the ball so, for me, I’m a massive fan.
“If he becomes available then I doubt Chelsea will be the only team interested in him.”
