Chelsea had been top of the league for some weeks, but a drop in form saw Chelsea lose their lead at the top to Manchester City.

Manchester City have been in top form, and Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Leicester City 6-3 and were 9 points ahead of Chelsea before Chelsea’s game against Aston Villa.

Chelsea dug deep to come from behind and win the game, in what was a brilliant performance from the team.

Chelsea reduced the deficit back to six with Romelu Lukaku coming on to change the game, and former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Lukaku’s impact has kept Chelsea in the title race.

“He singlehandedly got his team back in this title race. They needed something, they needed a spark and that’s exactly what he brought,” Redknapp said.

“In the first half they were going nowhere fast and the manager would have been scratching his head and thinking: ‘What do I do?’

“The obvious thing was to bring him on because they struggled so much with Pulisic in the first half as that number nine.”
