Romelu Lukaku was a man for the moment against Aston Villa, as his introduction sparked a massive change in affairs at Villa Park on Sunday evening. The Belgian scored a goal and won a penalty which was calmy dispatched by Jorginho.

Jorginho would also get high ratings in this game, as he was able to convert his two penalties, and it was enough for Chelsea to seal a victory.

Another man who really did well in this game was Callum Hudson-Odoi. The 21-year-old was brilliant all game, and his effort didn’t go unnoticed by his manager. He won the first penalty with his tricky run into the Villa box 18, and he crossed the ball for Lukaku to score Chelsea’s second.

Speaking after the match, Tuchel hailed the young winger and also admitted that he shouldn’t have played the 90 minutes.

Tuchel said: “I think he was brilliant today and we forced him. Normally it was clear that he plays one half to a maximum of 60 minutes. This was already more than any recommendation from fitness department but he was strong in training so I wanted to have him on the pitch.

“Hakim Ziyech had only one training session, Callum had at least two and a half, so we decided to put him in and he was involved.

“He overcame some obstacles today and some adversity. That was a big game, a very important game from him. We took a kind of a risk here because he just came back from Covid.”
