Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is yet to be match fit, Thomas Tuchel has revealed, after the Belgian missed out one month of action through injury.

The 28-year-old has scored four times in his 14 appearances since sealing a £97.5m move to Stamford Bridge, with his last goal coming against Zenit St Petersburg in September.

Lukaku is yet to start a match since his return from injury, and Tuchel has revealed that he was forced to bring him in early after Kai Havertz injury just before half-time.

Explaining why he brought on Lukaku earlier than expected, Tuchel said: “We had to [make the] change because we have another injured player [Kai Havertz].”

Tuchel added: “He cannot start the match now because he is not match ready.”

When asked what he thought of the striker’s performance, the Chelsea boss said: “It’s not about talking about individual players and not about Romelu now.”
