Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi won Chelsea’s first penalty and provided the cross for Romelu Lukaku’s goal as the Blues beat Aston Villa 3-1 on Boxing Day.
However, the 21 year old winger didn’t have it all his own way as he faced the wrath of Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel in the second half of the 3-1 win at Villa Park.
Tuchel was unhappy with Hudson-Odoi and screamed at the winger after he tried a blind backheel right in front of the head coach’s technical area, not the smartest thing to do, and gave the ball away.
When Tuchel was told about the incident after the game, he insisted he was impressed with Hudson-Odoi’s performance against Aston Villa.
“I think he was brilliant,” the German said.
“I was never frustrated with him today. He had one bad decision under pressure when he tried to do a backheel in front of the coaching staff, maybe there was an easier solution to escape the pressure with an easy pass, there was a clear pass to NG. But I was never frustrated with him today.
I think he was brilliant today and we forced him. Normally it was clear he plays one half to the maximum of 60 minutes. This was already more than the recommendation of the fitness department but he was strong in training so I wanted to have him on the pitch.”
