Chelsea fans love me even though I miss chances – Chelsea star claims

Chelsea striker Timo Werner has admitted he’s surprised by the love shown to him by Chelsea fans despite the chances he misses.

In a recent interview he did with Sky Sports Germany, Werner addressed his relationship with Chelsea fans.

He said: “Sometimes, I don’t know why they [Chelsea Fans] are supporting me so much, because I’m a striker and I want to score but miss chances.

“It makes it so fun to play in front of the Chelsea fans & when they give the support they give me, it makes me stronger when I miss chances or have hard times.

“I try to give my best every game, 100% to make sure the team are happy.”

Meanwhile, former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes Werner struggled with the intensity of the Premier League after he joined the club from RB Leipzig.

“Timo was a big [signing] because Liverpool wanted him, Man United were in for him,” Lampard said on Sky Sports, The Overlap.

“We knew there were three or four big clubs [trying to sign him] so when I spoke to Timo I knew I had to be on my game to try and get him to come.

“With Timo and Kai, there was clearly going to be adaptation issues. I know that from being in it because they were shocked at the speed of training, they were shocked by the physical demands of the game.

“I remember Eden Hazard’s first year at Chelsea, he went on to be one of Chelsea’s best-ever players, but you looked at him in pre-season strolling around.

“Pretty much any player goes through those periods. Timo and Kai had that in the early days, Kai had terrible Covid as well which set him back quite a lot.”
