Chelsea legend Ashley Cole has hailed Antonio Rudiger for his brilliant performance as Chelsea beat Tottenham 1-0 on Wednesday night and 3-0 on aggregate to progress to the final of the Carabao Cup.
Rudiger scored the only goal of the game and Cole insists he’s a player that Chelsea cannot afford to lose.
Rudiger is allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs as he has less than six months left on his contract and he is the subject of interest from a host of clubs, including Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Cole said: “Rudiger was brilliant. You can’t lose top, top key players in this dressing room. I think he can do everything.
“He can play out from the back, he can start attacks, he doesn’t like to be beat one v one, so he puts his body on the line. He’s becoming a real leader. He’s temperamental at times.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel gave a positive update on Antonio Rudiger’s Chelsea future following the 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
Tuchel told Sky Sports: “Everybody knows [the situation – he is out of contract at the end of the season], let’s wait and see.
“Of course [we are confident of keeping him]. We have things to offer and he is the player he is in a Chelsea shirt and a Chelsea environment. He knows that very well.”
