Young Chelsea striker Armando Broja joined Southampton on a season-long loan deal last summer and has scored seven goals in 19 appearances so far.

Before the start of the season, there were talks whether Broja could stay back at the club, but he wasn’t deemed ready at the time, and Chelsea had to spend £97.5m to sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.

Broja has been in top form for the Saints and delivered another impressive display in Southampton’s 4-1 win over Brentford last week Tuesday.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has reacted to the form of Broja and has challenged the 20-year-old to keep improving.

“He is our player, he is doing good. But at the same time, it is only halfway through the season, so he needs to continue to improve and make his statement at Southampton,” Tuchel told a press conference ahead of the Brighton game.

“We have a reason why they are our players, they have quality and a mentality and now they are out there on their own in different environments at different clubs.

“Armando is getting better and better.

“He is a very unique player with very unique strengths: speed, strong, robust and a goal scorer. Now is not the time to talk about summer.

“Now is the moment for him to stay calm and keep on improving.”
