Antonio Rudiger scored a first half goal as Chelsea defeated Tottenham 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Blues sealed passage to the final of the Carabao Cup after a 3-0 aggregate victory over Spurs in the semifinal.
There were a number of calls in the game that seemed to have gone Chelsea’s way, and it was the right call nevertheless.
Rudiger was adjudged to have given away a penalty as he fouled Lo Celso – however, the call was overturned and corrected to a free-kick as the foul had occurred just outside the box.
Spurs also had a goal disallowed for offside as well as another penalty decision overturned in the second half, as Kepa Arrizabalaga correctly won a tackle in the box 18.
Asked to comment on these VAR decisions, Rudiger told Sky Sports: “Unlucky for them.”
He then added: “Either way it can happen, you never know. I was very confident. As you can see on the footage, he stepped over his leg and fell down. I was calm.”
