Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has been fined over comments he made in an interview with Sky Italia.

Lukaku, 28, was dropped by Tuchel for Chelsea’s Premier League draw with Liverpool on Sunday after he said he was unhappy with his role under Tuchel and hopes to return to Inter Milan soon.

The Belgium striker has since apologised for his comments in the interview.

“There will be some disciplinary action and he will accept it,” Tuchel said on Tuesday.

“It happened and it’s not a small thing. But it’s not the biggest thing and does not make a comeback impossible, absolutely not. This is what we (will) prove now.

“But, something happened. He will be fined and of course he needs to accept it.”

Meanwhile, Lukaku has apologised to Thomas Tuchel, his team-mates and Chelsea supporters over the comments he made in an interview with Sky Italia.

“To the fans I’m sorry for the upset that I caused,” Lukaku said in a video released on Chelsea’s social media channels.

“You guys know the connection that I have with this club, since my teenage years, so you know, I totally understand you guys being upset.

“Obviously it’s up to me now to restore your trust and I’ll do my best to show commitment every day on the training ground to make sure that we win games.

“And also to the manager to my team-mates and the board because I think it was not the right moment also. And I want to move forward from this and make sure that we start winning football games and I perform for the team in the best manner.”
