Tuchel gives update on 25-year-old Ben Chilwell replacement

Chelsea seem short-staffed in the left wing-back position, as Ben Chilwell has been ruled out until the end of the season.

Chelsea have sought different options to provide cover for the left wing-back position, as 31-year-old Marcos Alonso remains the only option at the moment. However, all of Chelsea’s plans have proved abortive at the moment.

The club tried to recall back Emerson Palmieri on loan, but his French club Lyon has been a stumbling block, and Chelsea were left with no option than to recall loanee Kenedy, who was on loan with Brazilian side Flamengo.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he is happy with the return of the Brazilian, who can play as a wing-back, a winger and also an attacking midfielder.

Tuchel said of Kenedy’s return: “Kenedy is back and I am very happy about it. It’s a huge opportunity for him to make his mark at this club and this team. We will try now, from today on, to push and support him.

“You cannot say that Kenedy is the solution, he can be a solution. But the situation has not changed, we have long-term injuries with wing-backs, we’ve suffered a lot in midfield with Covid and injuries.

“Now our midfielders are more or less coming back we suffer a lot with our central defenders.”
