Chelsea demolished non-league side Chesterfield 5-1 in the third round of the FA Cup, as the Blues booked passage to the fourth round of the competition.

It was a dominant first half performance from Thomas Tuchel’s side, as goals from Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Romelu Lukaku and Andreas Christensen sealed a 4-0 victory at half-time.

Thomas Tuchel rang so many changes in the second half which disrupted the flow of the game but Hakim Ziyech still found time to convert a second half penalty to make it 5. The most interesting part of the game for the away side came when Asante scored an 80th minute consolation goal.

Speaking after the game, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was pleased with his side’s first half performance and was glad his side could still play with intensity despite the opponent.

“I’m happy with the attitude and how we started,” said Tuchel.

“We started strong and decided the match very early. This is what we wanted.

“At 5-0 we had a lot of changes in some crucial positions, and had some players who lacked a bit of rhythm and confidence in the position they were playing. So the last 20 mins I would have wished for a few more chances and more clinical finishing, but okay, the job is done.”
