Chelsea signed up Malang Sarr as a free agent from Nice two years ago, and the young defender is now proving that there is a lot in his locker.
The soon-to-be 23-year-old was given another starting berth against Tottenham, and he took it with both hands.
The 22-year-old is a versatile defender and is quite different from the central defenders in the current Chelsea setup. He featured as a left-back against Spurs, and his role was quite tactical as he had to tuck in as a left sided centre-back when defending.
Sarr didn’t seem unfazed coming up against Lucas Moura and Harry Kane, and the young centre back earned the praise of his manager Thomas Tuchel after the game.
Speaking after the game, Tuchel said: “He can play full-back like he did today, in a line with a wide player in front of him. He can play centre-back or left position in a back three.
“At the moment he deserves to play. He has played well when he was needed. He is very well aware of his role. From there he takes what he can get. He needs to work hard and stay humble. He is doing good, he is solid, he is consistent and that’s what we needed.”
